Session Description

Sofia is a member of the UN Team of Experts on Sexual Violence and Rule of Law where she focuses on the promotion of accountability for conflict related sexual violence crimes. She currently covers the Democratic Republic of Congo, Mali, and Nigeria as well as the counter-terrorism and human trafficking agendas. Sofia has extensive experience working in international justice and development organizations. She has served as Criminal Justice Coordinator at the International Center for Transitional Justice where she focused on supporting national efforts on the investigation and prosecution of international crimes in Colombia, DRC, Ivory Coast, Tunisia and Uganda. Before joining ICTJ she served as Program Manager of UNDP's Access to Justice, with a focus on women’s access to justice in Eastern DRC, and as a Legal Officer with the Serious Crimes Unit in UNMISET, East Timor, the Legal Advisory Section of the War Crimes Chamber, in Sarajevo and the International Criminal Court.
